Louis Theroux is a British journalist, documentarian, and presenter. He rose to fame in the mid-1990s through his documentary series, Louis Theroux's Weird Weekends. In this series, he traveled to the U.S., where he explored unique subcultures such as swingers, gun-loving Americans, and paranoia-inducing UFO beliefs. Since then, he has continued to document marginalized groups in society, often tackling controversial topics such as crime, race, and religion. From 2012 to 2020, he has been producing two documentary series for the BBC, called Louis Theroux's Altered States and Louis Theroux's City of Dreams. His documentaries have been highly acclaimed, with a special BAFTA being given to him for Outstanding Contribution to Television in 2017. He currently lives in London, England and is continuing to produce documentaries and present documentaries for the BBC.
