2023's report centered around a cost-of-living crisis with seemingly no end in sight. Rising costs impacted both fans and organisers. As a result, the past year saw record cancellations around the world. But it's not all doom and gloom — this year's report explores the evolving landscape of live events in Australia in 2024, with insights from eight industry experts and nearly 3,000 fans across the country.

 56%
of event goers*, across all ages, agree that live music events are a priority expense.

 75%
of event goers say that confidence in easily reselling a ticket encourages them to buy earlier
 51%
of event goers aged 18-24 have brought a ticket to see an artist they discovered through TikTok or IG Reels audio.
63%
of festival-goers lean towards genre-focused events rather than those offering a wide-ranging mix.

“Festivals have a huge role to play in the discovery of Australian music for audiences. Ensuring festivals continue to happen is not just important for festival goers and those who work on festivals, it’s vital to ensure Aussie artists have those stages to perform on to get their break before touring overseas, and trying to make it in a competitive, globalised music industry.”

“Concerts are just going to keep going strong, and that seems to be the mainstay in the industry right now.”

"We’re seeing the younger generations bring to headline shows what used to be exclusive to festivals - things like dressing up, meeting new people, having these communities. At Phoebe Bridgers, for example, we saw people lined up outside from the morning of the show, they had blankets, snacks and were meeting new people - it really did remind me a bit of camping at a festival."

HANDSOME TOURS

“Brands like Beyond the Valley, Pitch, and Grapevine all started when the likes of Future and Stereosonic ended about 10 years ago, so maybe Australia goes through these natural cycles. But there’s no set formula, and the market doesn’t follow a predictable pattern.”
