Archie Roach is an Australian singer-songwriter who has been a major figure in Aboriginal music since the early 1990s. Raised in Framlingham, Victoria since the age of three on the Koori mission station, Roach's music is a combination of folk rock and country and is heavily influenced by his personal life experiences. After the release of his debut album Charcoal Lane in 1990, which won him five different ARIA Music Awards, Roach went on to release over a dozen albums over the course of his illustrious career, as well as numerous singles and EPs. He is well known for his mournful yet powerful songs about social injustice, grief and resilience, as well as his activism on behalf of aboriginal rights. Roach has received many accolades for his work, including being included in the artist list of the National Indigenous Music Awards Hall of Fame in 2008.
