About Redgum
Redgum was an influential Australian folk-rock band from Adelaide, South Australia, active from 1975-1988. During the band's career they released six studio albums and four additional compilations of previously released material. The band was most well known for the single "I Was Only 19" which controversially covered the story of a young Vietnam vet's experience of the war and topped the singles chart in Australia. In addition to folk-rock, the band was known for particularly focusing on social issues such as Australia's involvement in the Vietnam War which is described in many of their songs. Redgum also had minor success overseas and participated in the nationwide Aussie-Oz tour in 1983. Even though they disbanded in 1988, their influence is still seen today in a number of different bands and singers from Australia.
