About Cowboy Junkies
Cowboy Junkies are a Canadian alt-country/folk rock band formed in Toronto, Ontario in 1985. The group consists of Margo Timmins (vocals), Michael Timmins (songwriting, guitar), Peter Timmins (percussion) and Alan Anton (bass). The band's sound turns away from the typical rock sound of the 1980s, instead incorporating elements of folk, blues, and country.
Their debut album, 'The Trinity Session', released in 1988, helped define the 'slowcore' genre. Cowboy Junkies were immediately embraced for their unique stripped-down sound and for their creative approach to songwriting. The album had a powerful and intimate sound, created by recording in a single session in a downtown Toronto church.
The band’s second album, 'The Caution Horses' (1990), reached the top 10 on the Canadian and U.S. album charts and was later certified double-platinum in the U.
