About Digable Planets
Digable Planets is an American hip hop trio that was formed in 1987 in Brooklyn, New York. Composed of Ishmael "Butterfly" Butler, Craig "Doodlebug" Irving, and Mary Ann "Ladybug Mecca" Vieira, the band is best known for their 1993 hit single "Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)." Their debut album, Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space), was critically acclaimed and took home the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance in 1994. The band followed this up with their second album Blowout Comb in 1994, a funky jazzy album featuring samples from Curtis Mayfield's Superfly soundtrack and guest vocals from Kendrick Lamar. Digable Planets continued to release music up until their break up in 1995. Although they never released another record as a group, they remain an influential trio in the world of hip hop.
