About Ron Carter
Ron Carter is an American jazz double bassist and cellist who is credited as one of the most influential jazz musicians of all time. Carter began playing the cello at age 10 and studied the double bass at age 13. While attending the Eastman School of Music, Carter joined the Miles Davis Quintet in 1963, making him the first electric bassist to ever play in a jazz band. During his time in the Miles Davis' Quintet, Carter revolutionized the role of the double bass in jazz. Since then, Carter has held countless leadership roles within the jazz community and has performed on more than 2,500 albums, being referenced as the "most recorded jazz bassist in history." Additionally, he has made 11 solo albums featuring a cross section of America's rich musical heritage, including swing, bebop, Brazilian, and classical compositions. Carter has also won five Grammy Awards and is an inaugural member of the International Association of Jazz Education Hall of Fame.
