About Bar Kays
The Bar-Kays are an American soul, R&B, and funk band formed in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1966. Originally composed of session musicians for Stax Records, the group gained popularity with their hit "Soul Finger" in 1967. Their promising career was marred by tragedy when four members died in a plane crash that same year, along with Otis Redding. Surviving member Ben Cauley, along with bassist James Alexander who was not on the flight, rebuilt the band, and they found success throughout the 1970s and 1980s with hits like "Freakshow on the Dance Floor" and "Shake Your Rump to the Funk." The Bar-Kays continue to perform and influence the music scene with their dynamic blend of soul and funk.
