Country music star Jelly Roll has recently expressed openness to stepping away from his music career if he feels a divine calling to do so. In an interview with Kelly Sutton of Y’all Access Radio, recorded backstage at the Grand Ole Opry in March and released on September 13, 2026, Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason DeFord, reflected on his accomplishments and future direction.
He stated, “Everything that Jason or Jelly Roll wanted to do in the music business, I’ve done now, so at this point, I really need to go talk to God and see if he wants me to stick around, or what he wants me to do next.” He further mentioned that if he felt called to work at a homeless shelter in Paducah, Kentucky, he would leave the music industry without hesitation, saying, “Y’all will never see me again.”
This contemplation follows a period of significant personal and professional milestones for the 41-year-old artist. Earlier this year, Jelly Roll finalized his divorce from Bunnie Xo after nearly a decade of marriage. In August, he announced a hiatus from touring to focus on healing, telling fans during a Salt Lake City concert, “I’m fixing to take some time off and heal.”
Professionally, Jelly Roll has achieved notable success, including winning three Grammy Awards in February 2026 and being inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in March.
