New York Giants wide receiver and return specialist Braxton Berrios has announced he will undergo season-ending foot surgery following an injury sustained during the team's Week 4 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Berrios, who joined the Giants in June, confirmed the news on his 31st birthday via Instagram, expressing his disappointment and resolve to recover.
Berrios's injury occurred late in the first half of the game against Arizona. Prior to the injury, he had contributed as both a receiver and returner, recording 138 yards on five kickoff returns and 10 yards on four punt returns over four games. His absence leaves a gap in the Giants' special teams unit.
In response, the Giants are expected to look internally to fill the void. Charlie Jones, who replaced Berrios during the game, is a leading candidate. Jones was promoted to the active roster after the release of Odell Beckham Jr. Other potential replacements include running back Tyrone Tracy Jr., who had a notable 55-yard return against the Cardinals, and wide receivers Jalin Hyatt and Dalen Cambre from the practice squad.
Head coach John Harbaugh emphasized the team's preference to utilize existing roster members to address the vacancy. "We've got guys that have been here practicing who are in the system, know what they're doing or are preparing for this opportunity," Harbaugh stated. "That would be our first look."
Berrios's injury marks the second time in three seasons that he has faced a season-ending setback. Despite the challenges, he remains optimistic about his recovery and future contributions to the team.
