Villarreal CF is set to host Elche CF at Estadio de la Cerámica on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 16:15 local time. This LaLiga Matchday 9 fixture is drawing significant attention due to both teams' current standings and recent performances.
Team Form and Standings
Villarreal currently occupies the 11th position in LaLiga, having accumulated 8 points from 8 matches. Their recent form includes a notable 3-1 victory over Napoli in the Champions League, which has boosted team morale. However, they suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Real Madrid in their last league outing. (as.com)
Elche, on the other hand, finds itself in the 18th spot, firmly in the relegation zone, with only one win this season. Their most recent league match resulted in a goalless draw against Celta Vigo. Despite their low position, Elche has shown signs of defensive improvement, managing to keep a clean sheet for the first time this season in their last match. (as.com)
Match Preview and Tactical Considerations
Villarreal's manager, Iñigo Pérez, may consider squad rotations to manage player fatigue, especially following their midweek European fixture. The team is expected to maintain its attacking setup, aiming to capitalize on Elche's defensive vulnerabilities. (as.com)
Elche's coach, Martín Anselmi, has a fully fit squad at his disposal. He is likely to field a lineup focusing on defensive solidity while seeking opportunities to exploit Villarreal's potential fatigue. The probable starting XI includes Dituro in goal; a back four of Rubén Sánchez, Morcillo, Chust, and Revivo; a midfield trio of Aguado, Gonzalo Villar, and Lemar; with Cepeda and Valera on the wings supporting striker Fer Niño.
