About Coven
Coven is an American rock band formed in 1967 in Chicago, Illinois, by vocalist Jinx Dawson, bassist Oz Osborne, guitarist Chris Neilsen, and drummer Steve Ross. Though they are largely known for pioneering the heavy metal / occult rock genre, Coven has also incorporated influences from a varied range of styles including hard rock, classical, folk, and avant-garde music. Coven's most commercially successful album was 1969's Witchcraft Destroys Minds & Reaps Souls. The album was certified gold in the US and includes the single, "One Tin Soldier," which featured in the soundtrack for the 1971 movie Billy Jack. Their follow-up, Blood on the Snow, failed to chart, but remained popular amongst heavy metal fans and cult film enthusiasts. In 1975, the band disbanded with each member pursuing independent projects. After a long hiatus, they reunited in 2006 for some select performances. Their latest album, Red Snow was released in 2006.
