Australian rock band Powderfinger has officially announced their reunion, marking their first live performances since their 2010 farewell tour. The band confirmed they will embark on a national tour across Australia starting in September 2027.
The announcement follows a series of cryptic teasers that appeared over the past week. Digital billboards in Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne displayed clues such as "ALBUMS: 7" and "ARIAS: 18," referencing the band's seven studio albums and 18 ARIA Awards. Additionally, an Instagram account named "The Return of the Electric Horsemen"—a nod to the final track on their 1996 album Double Allergic—shared enigmatic messages and imagery, fueling speculation among fans.
In a video posted to their official social media channels, frontman Bernard Fanning addressed fans directly: "We always said that if we were going to get back together to do some shows, that you guys would be the first to know. And so now you're the first to know. We are going to do some shows all around Australia from September next year." Guitarist Darren Middleton added, "We're going to build something pretty special just for you guys. We'll see you from the stage."
Formed in Brisbane in 1989, Powderfinger became one of Australia's most celebrated rock bands, achieving five consecutive number-one albums on the ARIA charts. Their 2000 album Odyssey Number Five won six ARIA Awards, including Album of the Year and Record of the Year for the hit single "My Happiness." The band concluded their Sunsets Farewell Tour in November 2010, performing their final show in their hometown of Brisbane.
While specific dates and venues for the upcoming tour have yet to be announced, the band has directed fans to their official website, where full details are expected to be released on Monday, October 12, 2026. This reunion marks a significant moment for Australian music, as fans eagerly anticipate the return of one of the nation's most iconic rock groups.
