Gus Johnson is an American jazz electric and acoustic percussionist who has enjoyed success in the music industry since the early 1960s. He is best known for his work with jazz greats such as John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, and McCoy Tyner. Johnson started his percussion career at the age of fifteen. He has released over fifteen albums with his own groups or as part of other ensembles. Johnson has also performed with some of the world's most acclaimed jazz artists, including Chick Corea, Freddie Hubbard, and Wynton Marsalis. In 2012, Johnson was inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame. Throughout his career, Johnson has stayed true to the sound that resonates with jazz enthusiasts all over the world.
