The Walkmen is an American indie rock band made up of Hamilton Leithauser, Walter Martin, Paul Maroon, Peter Bauer and Matt Barrick. They formed in 2000 in New York City and shortly after released their debut studio album Everyone Who Pretended to Like Me Is Gone in 2002. The follow-up Bows + Arrows was released in 2004 and was met with critical acclaim. The band went on to release a further four studio albums, along with a few compilation and live albums over the span of their career. Their music is known for its distinctive mix of rock, folk, and soul and is often hailed by critics for its introspective and heartfelt lyrics. The Walkmen also released several successful singles including “The Rat” and “Four Provinces”. They announced their indefinite hiatus in 2013 and have since pursued solo projects.
