Billy Porter is an American actor, singer and composer from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He first became widely known for his role as Lola in the Broadway musical Kinky Boots, for which he won the Tony Award for Best Actor in 2013. Porter followed up the success of his Tony Award by appearing in a number of films and television series, most notably, Ryan Murphy's FX show Pose where he was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor for his role in the show. Alongside his acting career, Porter has released two studio albums to critical acclaim, demonstrating his talents as a song-writer, singer and composer. His music style has been described as a mix of soul, hip-hop and jazz influences. Porter is a dedicated LGBTQIA+ rights activist, and in 2019 he was awarded the Vito Russo Award for his contribution to LGBTQIA+ visibility.
