Meshuggah is a Swedish metal band formed in 1987. They are widely considered to be one of the pioneering bands of the extreme metal sub-genre of "djent". Their music is characterized by heavy use of distorted guitar sounds, polyrhythmic patterns, and aggressive syncopated riffs. They have released 8 full-length studio albums, their most recent being The Violent Sleep of Reason in 2016. The band's live performance have gained them a reputation for their intense and powerful shows. They were also nominated for a Grammy in 2008 for Best Metal Performance. Meshuggah is widely hailed as one of the foremost bands of the metal genre, influencing a great many bands and creating a unique sound in their own right.
