Peaches (born Merill Beth Nisker) is a Canadian singer, songwriter, music producer and performance artist from Toronto. Beginning her career in the late 1990s, Peaches quickly gained recognition for her explicit and inventive lyrics and became part of a movement of avant-garde musicians in the Toronto independent music scene. In the 2000s, she released four studio albums that featured her unique blend of electro, rap, punk and rock influences. Her groundbreaking music has been covered by artists ranging from Pink and Gossip to Miley Cyrus. Peaches has also performed and collaborated with numerous musicians, including Iggy Pop, Joan Jett, Kim Gordon, and Feist. Her lyrics often focus on issues relating to gender, gender identity, and sexuality, as well as non-conformity. She has been hailed as an icon of female empowerment by many, and is credited as one of the original proponents of the new wave of electroclash.
