About Smokey
Smokey, born William "Smokey" Robinson, is an iconic artist and songwriter who began his career with the Motown record label in the 1960s. During his lengthy career with Motown, Robinson wrote an impressive number of successful hit songs for artists such as Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, and The Miracles, the latter of which he was the lead singer of. He was instrumental in transforming the small Detroit label into the so-called "Motown Sound" of the 60s and 70s. His legendary catalog includes many of the era's staples, such as "Shop Around", “The Tears of a Clown”, “Tracks of My Tears”, and “I Second That Emotion”.
