About The Dirty Dozen Brass Band
The Dirty Dozen Brass Band are an American jazz and funk outfit from New Orleans, Louisiana, formed in 1977. They are known for their combination of jazz, funk, bebop, and hip hop. The original personnel consisted of leader and trumpeter Gregory Davis, trombonist/vocalist Keith "Wolf" French, baritone saxophonist Roger Lewis, trumpeter Efrem Towns, sousaphonist Kirk Joseph, and drummer Joe "Sticks" Evans. During their 40-year career, they have produced 13 studio albums, usually featuring a large horn section but also showcasing additional percussion, bass, and keyboards. Their music has since been used in various TV shows, films, and advertising campaigns, and they have collaborated with many artists, including Widespread Panic, Trey Anastasio of Phish, Norah Jones, and Modest Mouse. The band still continues to tour and perform to this day.
