Formed in 1991, Arcturus is a progressive black metal band from Norway. They are known for their unique electro-influenced style that combines elements of black metal, ambient music, classical music, and even jazz. Though they disbanded in 2007, they have since reformed in 2011 and are currently active.

Arcturus has released seven full-length studio albums and a number of smaller releases. Their most successful album to date is The Sham Mirrors, released on 2002, which was their first and only album to enter the official Norwegian Albums Chart.

The band's members have also played in other notable extreme metal bands such as Mayhem and Emperor. Arcturus is known for their intense live performances, often featuring orchestral musicians backing them up during their concerts. To date, the band has toured the world and continue to be a cult favorite in the progressive black metal scene.
