Belphegor is a black metal band from Austria. Formed in 1991, the band is considered to be pioneering within the death/black metal genres for their innovative sound. They have released a total of eleven full-length studio albums, one live album, two demo albums, and two EPs. Belphegor's lyrical themes often revolve around Satanism, anti-Christianity, death, and (occasionally) occultism. Their sound is an amalgamation of death, black, and thrash influences where blast beats and harsh screams prevail. Belphegor have also toured with other prominent bands in the genre, most notably with Chris Reifert's influential death metal band, Autopsy. Belphegor have been continuously active since their formation and remain an important and influential band in extreme metal.
