About Materia (Band)

Materia (Band) has been a pioneering Latin Alternative band since the mid-1980s. It is led by Colombian-born brothers Alfonso and Gustavo Castillo, two veteran musicians who incorporate psychedelic rock, soul, funk, merengue, cumbia and salsa in their sound. Materia’s first big break came when they scored the film soundtrack to the major motion picture 'Mona Lisa Smile' in 2003. Since then, their prolific career has seen them perform worldwide and their work has earned them multiple Latin GRAMMY nominations, eventually winning over their adoring fans with their 2017 'Latin GRAMMY Award' for Best Alternative Music Album. The band continues to release award-winning music and collaborate with a new generation of Latin artists.
