Morbid Angel is an American death metal band from Tampa, Florida. Founded in 1984 by guitarist Trey Azagthoth and vocalist/bassist Mike Browning, they are credited with crafting the death metal sound that defined the genre in the late 1980s and early 1990s. They released their debut album Blessed are the Sick in 1991, followed by five more studio albums that further pushed the boundaries of extreme metal. Their albums are known for their aggressive riffs, esoteric lyrics, and leaning towards complex time signatures. The band quickly gained a cult following among fans and gained critical reception for their innovative approach to extreme metal. They have toured extensively throughout the years, and remain a dominant force in the heavy metal genre and an active touring act to this day.
