About Pledge of Allegiance
The Pledge of Allegiance, originally composed by Francis Bellamy in 1892, is a short expression of loyalty to the flag and the United States. It was published in the September 8th issue of "The Youth's Companion" magazine to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival in America. The pledge has undergone a few changes, most notably in 1954 when the words "under God" were added during the Eisenhower administration to underscore the nation's spiritual values amid Cold War tensions. Recited in schools, government meetings, and public events, the Pledge of Allegiance remains a testament to American patriotism and unity.
