Toots & The Maytals is a Jamaican reggae group featuring singer/songwriter Toots Hibbert. Formed in 1961, Toots & The Maytals are regarded as some of the most influential acts of reggae music. They have been awarded the Order of Distinction by the Jamaican Government for their significant contributions to Jamaican music. Their breakthrough hit single "Do the Reggay" is credited as one of the first songs to use the word "reggae". They have released more than 20 studio albums, several live albums, and a number of compilations, with very positive reviews from critics. Through the years, Toots & The Maytals have collaborated with a number of other artists, such as The Specials, No Doubt, The Clash, Ben Harper, and Bonnie Raitt. Their music has been sampled and covered by hundreds of popular hip-hop, reggae, and dancehall acts over the years.
