Corduroy is an English alt-rock band formed in London in the early 1980s. Led by Peter Fenton, the band consists of Martin Gordon, William Potter, and Ian McLagan. They achieved success in the 1980s and early 1990s with their melodic, hook-filled brand of pop/rock, drawing comparisons to bands like The Kinks and The Beatles, as well as contemporaries like The Smiths. While Corduroy never became internationally popular, their influence has been felt by other bands in the UK alt-rock scene, inspiring the likes of James, Oasis, and Primal Scream. Over the decades, the band has released a handful of acclaimed albums, including their debut LP Steppers (1986), Sign Of Life (1989), and the critically acclaimed We Got Style (1993). They continue to be a favorite of UK indie rock fans to this day.
