Mick Turner is an Australian musician and visual artist who has been active since the mid-1990s. He is best known as a founding member of Melbourne-based indie rock band Dirty Three, which he has played guitar in since its formation. With a unique, heavily layered guitar style, Turner's playing has helped to define the sound of the Dirty Three and of much of the indie-folk scene they pioneered. Turner has also released several solo records, exploring minimalistic guitar-based instrumental compositions. He has collaborated with several notable acts, including Cat Power, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, The Flesh Eaters, and Bonnie Raitt. As an artist, Turner's work has appeared in numerous exhibitions and his prints have been used as fashionable items and official artwork for Melbourne-based theater companies.
