Mike Campbell is an American session musician, songwriter, and record producer best known for his long-time role as the lead guitarist in Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. After a long career as a backing musician for acts like Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac, Del Shannon, and Jackson Browne, Campbell broke through as the lead for Tom Petty with the single "Breakdown." His work in Petty's band spanned four decades until the band split in 2017. His solo albums show a growing influence and appreciation of a variety of musical styles, from r&b to jazz and blues. Campbell's work has inspired countless modern guitarists; often called the "secret weapon" for his crisp tones and melodic solos. In addition to his prolific career as a sideman, Campbell has produced albums for Grace Potter, Don Henley, Johnny Cash, and Delbert McClinton.
