About Whirimako Black
Whirimako Black is a renowned Māori singer from the Ngāti Maniapoto tribe in New Zealand. She is known for being an award-winning contemporary musician and for blending her traditional Ngāti Maniapoto culture and modern influences in her work. Her music has a strong presence of Te Reo Māori, promoting cultural identity and revitalisation.
Whirimako has achieved several accolades, such as being the first winner of the National Waiata Māori Music Awards in 2006 and receiving the "We love Māori Music Award" at the 2020 New Zealand Music Awards.
In 2004, Whirimako released her debut album ‘E Puare Ana Te Mangai’, featuring an exclusively Māori collection of songs, and her 2015 album, entitled ‘Taku Aroha’ which incorporates acoustic and ambient elements. She has released four albums in total, in addition to
