Phoenix Foundation are an experimental pop-rock band from New Zealand, whose sound combines atmospheric guitars, keyboards, and subtle electronica. They released their debut album, Horse Power, and EP Buffalo in 2003, and their highly praised, self-titled album in 2006. Over the next few years, they released four more albums, including 2013's Fandango, which won the New Zealand Music Award for 'Album of The Year'and 'Best Group'. Since then they've released three further critically acclaimed albums, and their most recent offering is 2020's Friend Ship. Phoenix Foundation are known for their highly creative music, which often combines art rock and indie pop, while also utilising unusual instrumentation such as xylophones, fuzzy guitars, and multi-part vocal harmonies.
