Rodriguez (born Sixto Diaz Rodriguez 1948) is an American singer-songwriter from Detroit, Michigan. He is perhaps best known for his two studio albums, Cold Fact (1970) and Coming from Reality (1971). Rodriguez's music, which blended Folk, Rock, and Reggae, was championed by critics, and he has since achieved a small cult status around the world. His popularity increased significantly after the release of the Academy Award-winning 2012 documentary Searching for Sugar Man, which detailed his career and his influence in South Africa. He has since toured extensively, performing all over Europe, Australia, and the United States. In 2014, he won a Grammy Award for Best Long Form Music Video for the documentary. In 2018, Rodriguez was inducted into the Latin Music Hall of Fame. He continues to write and perform music even today.
