Formed in Oslo, Norway in 1993, Ulver is an experimental rock band that is known for their constantly shifting music style and sonically adventurous approach. As the project started as a black metal band, Ulver's early albums A Themes from William Blake's The Marriage of Heaven and Hell and Nattens Madrigal established them as unusual within the genre. Through subsequent albums Ulver shifted from a blend of acoustic folk and black metal to a far more varied sound, incorporating elements of jazz, electronic, and various classical influences into their music. Recent albums Messe I.X-VI.X, ATGCLVLSSCAP, and The Assassination of Julius Caesar were praised for how seamlessly elements of their previous releases blended with the new directions the group was going in. Ulver's ability to grasp a style and then move on has kept them a truly unique and captivating act.
