About Margaret Atwood
Canadian author Margaret Atwood is a prolific and multi-award-winning writer whose works have been published in over 40 languages, and have been adapted for stage, film, and television. Atwood's first novel, The Edible Woman, was published in 1969, and she has since released over 40 works of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, short stories, and libretti. Her works range from speculative fiction and historical fiction to dystopian literature, and often feature strong female characters. Atwood is best known for her 1986 novel The Handmaid's Tale, which was adapted into an award-winning TV series. Her other works include The Blind Assassin (2000), which won the Booker Prize, and Oryx and Crake (2003), when was nominated for the prestigious Arthur C. Clarke Award. Atwood has received numerous awards and honors including the recently created Booker of Booker Prize in 2008 for Blind Assassin, as well as several honorary doctorates.
