About The Mission

The Mission were a goth-rock band from the UK, formed in 1986 by former members of the band The Sisters Of Mercy. They are well-known for their dark, atmospheric sound which featured an element of rock and pop with Romantic-Gothic undertones and occasional orchestration.

Their first two albums, God's Own Medicine (1986) and Children (1988) both achieved success with the band topping the UK independent charts. The band released four more successful albums, Carved In Sand (1990), Masque (1992), Aura (1995) and Blue (1996).

The Mission were among the first goth-rock groups to incorporate strong elements of blues and alternative rock into their original gothic sound and gained a dedicated cult following. Although the band broke up in 1998, they have continued to perform on occasion and some individual members continue to record and tour.
