Citadelle is a historic fortress located in Haiti, also known as the Citadelle Laferrière. Built between 1805 and 1820 by Henri Christophe, a key leader in the Haitian Revolution and later King of Haiti, it stands atop the Bonnet à l'Evêque mountain in the northern region of the country. Designed as a stronghold to defend against possible French invasions and secure Haiti's independence, the Citadelle is recognized as a symbol of Haitian resilience and ingenuity. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1982, it remains one of the largest fortresses in the Americas and a significant cultural and historical emblem.
