Juan Atkins is an American musician and one of the pioneers of the techno genre. Born in Detroit, Michigan, he is credited with being a founding member of 'The Belleville Three,' along with Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson, who are considered the originators of Detroit techno. Atkins began his career in the early 1980s, initially gaining recognition with his group Cybotron before producing music under the alias Model 500.
