Peter Gabriel is an English singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He is one of the pioneers of progressive rock music, and is well known for his spiritual, social, and political activism. His career began in the 1960s as the lead singer of the band Genesis. Under his leadership, the band released a string of successful albums. He embarked on a solo career in 1977, releasing his debut album "Peter Gabriel." He continued to release albums throughout the 1980s and 1990s, gaining critical acclaim for his idiosyncratic blend of rock, world, art-pop, and electronic music. He won the first ever Grammy Award for Best Music Video in 1988 for his song "Sledgehammer," and has continue to win awards for his live tour performances. He continues to collaborate with a variety of different artists and has released a total of 13 studio albums over the course of his career.
