About The Long Ryders
The Long Ryders were an American alternative country band, active from 1983 to 1987, on the Paisley Underground scene of Los Angeles. Calling themselves "The American Intervention," they helped define the emerging roots rock sound of the mid-1980s. Led by singer-songwriters Sid Griffin and Stephen McCarthy, the band also featured drummer Greg Sowders, bassist Tom Stevens and pedal steel guitarist besides McCarthy, Pat Brady. They built a solid fan base with college radio airplay and tours alongside R.E.M., The Dream Syndicate, Los Lobos and others. Their classic records include 1984's Native Sons and 1985's State of Our Union. The band members went on to various solo careers in music and radio after The Long Ryders disbanded in 1987.
