The Microphones were an indie rock band from Olympia, Washington, formed in 1996. The band started with a lo-fi home recording sound but evolved to create a unique mix of experimental soundscapes with indie rock. Their first album, The Glow Pt. 2, is considered a milestone in lo-fi recordings, while later works incorporated more production value and explored different soundscapes. The band, headed by Phil Elverum, disbanded in 2003, but their influence can still be heard in modern indie-rock today.
