Toots and the Maytals is a popular Jamaican Reggae band well known for their genre-defining1968 single, “Do the Reggay”, often credited as the first ever Reggae song. The group was founded in the early 1960s by singer/songwriter Toots Hibbert and originally comprised of vocalists Cecil Spence and Nathaniel "Jerry" Matthias. The band has been popular over the years, releasing 20 studio albums as well as six live albums and numerous compilations. They also won a GRAMMY Award for Best Reggae Album in 2005 for True Love. The band has most recently returned to the music scene with two new albums, Got to Be Tough in 2020 and Take Me Home in 2021. Toots and the Maytals have achieved legendary status, having shaped the Reggae sound and its influence can be heard in many of today's popular music.
