Phil Campbell, Longtime Motörhead Guitarist, Dies at 64
Philip Anthony Campbell, renowned for his tenure as the guitarist for the legendary rock band Motörhead, has passed away at the age of 64. Born on May 7, 1961, in Pontypridd, Wales, Campbell's musical journey began at the age of 10, inspired by icons like Jimi Hendrix and Tony Iommi. His early career saw him playing with the band Persian Risk before joining Motörhead in 1984.
During his time with Motörhead, Campbell contributed to numerous albums, including Orgasmatron (1986), Rock 'n' Roll (1987), and Bad Magic (2015). Following the death of Motörhead's frontman Lemmy Kilmister in 2015, Campbell formed his own band, Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons, featuring his three sons. The band released several albums, such as The Age of Absurdity (2018) and Kings of the Asylum (2023).
In February 2026, Campbell canceled a series of tour dates due to medical advice, prioritizing his health. He passed away on March 13, 2026. His contributions to rock music have left an indelible mark, and he is remembered for his dynamic guitar playing and dedication to his craft.
