Morris Day and The Time are an American funk band from the early 1980s. They were part of the ‘Minneapolis Sound’ of the 1980s, a style of funk and soul music produced in the midwestern state of Minnesota. The original band members were Prince protégés Morris Day and Jellybean Johnson, and they were known for their energetic live shows and danceable grooves.

The group released their debut album, ‘The Time’, in 1981. It became a major success, reaching No. 6 on the US Billboard’s R&B Albums chart, and was certified platinum by the RIAA. The band followed this up with further albums, including ‘What Time Is It’ (1982), ‘Ice Cream Castle’ (1984), and ‘Pandemonium’ (1990).

The band disbanded in the early 1990s but reformed in 2000, and have since released several new albums
