About Arturo Sandoval

Arturo Sandoval is a Cuban-American jazz trumpeter, pianist, and composer, whose career spans more than five decades. He began playing with Cuban bands in the 1970s, before going on to study with renowned classical trumpet teacher William Vacchiano at the Juilliard School in New York City. After returning to Cuba, Sandoval joined the Afro-Cuban jazz band Irakere, where he quickly gained international recognition as a musician and composer. Sandoval has since carved out a successful career, having played and collaborated with some of the biggest names in music, including Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, and salsa star Gloria Estefan. He has won six Grammy Awards, an Emmy Award, and has received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Obama. His pioneering musical style continues to influence Cuban-American jazz music, making him one of the most influential voices in the Latin music world.
