Primitive Man are a sludge metal band hailing from Denver, Colorado, who formed in 2011. The project is a unit comprising vocalist/guitarist Ethan McCarthy, drummer Joe Linden, and bassist Jonathan Campos. Their music combines elements of doom metal, sludge and noise rock, and draws influence from bands like Swans, Converge, Grief, and Neurosis.

The band have released three full-length albums, 'Scorn' (2015), 'Caustic' (2017), and 'Immersion' (2020). They have also released several EPs and splits and collaborations with other metal acts such as Unearthly Trance, Thou and False.

Primitive Man’s music has been highly acclaimed by critics, with some calling it "intense, confrontational, and completely devastating". Their most recent album 'Immersion' was praised for its mix of "grinding, unsettling sludge and slower moments of
