About 311
311 is an American alternative rock and reggae band, formed in 1988 in Omaha, Nebraska. The band consists of Nick Hexum on guitar and vocals, SA Martinez on vocals and turntables, Tim Mahoney on guitar, Chad Sexton on drums and percussion, Doug "SA" Potter on bass, and Aaron "P-Nut" Willis on bass and backing vocals.
311 started out as an underground hip-hop and funk-rock group, and their sound is a fusion of rock, reggae, rap, and funk. They rose to prominence in the mid-90s, when they released their second album, Grassroots, which resulted in their hits "Down" and "All Mixed Up".
They have released 12 studio albums, as well as one live album, one compilation album, and exclusive releases. Their most successful album is 1997's Transistor, which peaked at number 4 on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum in 2001. They
