In Flames is a popular Swedish metal band founded in Gothenburg in 1990. They have released thirteen studio albums as well as numerous EP’s and compilations. The band’s music focuses on melodic song structures and usually contains heavy riffs, both fast and slow. Their sound is mostly pegged as melodic death metal, but has evolved to include metalcore, alternative metal, and power metal elements. In Flames also mix their lyrics with melodic vocal lines. Throughout their career they have had success in Europe as well as North America and have become one of the most influential acts in the metal genre. Although their past vocalist has left, the current lineup is still gaining momentum and will continue to be a pioneering force in the melodic metal scene.
