Joshua Redman is an American jazz saxophonist known for his powerful style of tenor saxophone playing. He rose to fame in the early 1990s when he won the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition and was a member of the jazz fusion group SFJAZZ Collective. Redman has gone on to record with a number of prominent jazz musicians and has released over a dozen albums as a leader, spanning styles from traditional jazz to funk and free jazz. He has also collaborated with diverse artists from outside the jazz world, such as Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke and Branford Marsalis, and has been a featured performer at a number of prestigious international festivals including the Newport Jazz Festival. Redman continues to perform and teach music around the world, and has been credited with inspiring a new generation of jazz saxophonists.
