Sergio Mendes is a musician and composer from Brazil and has had one of the longest international careers of any Latin music artist. Mendes rose to fame with his distinctive version of Bossa Nova in the early 1960's. During this time his group, Brasil '66, became a major crossover success in the United States. He also released important albums in other genres ranging from funk and jazz to traditional Brazilian styles. Mendes has released more than 35 albums over his career thus far, and is also an accomplished live performer, having performed in more than 80 countries. Mendes is also a highly sought-after collaborator, having worked with the likes of will.i.am, Erykah Badu, Beck, and Justin Timberlake.
