The Afghan Whigs are an American rock band formed in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1986. The band has been categorized as alternative rock, soul, and power-pop. Since their start, the lineup has included singer/guitarist Greg Dulli, bassist John Curley, rhythm guitarist Rick McCollum, and drummer Steve Earle. The band released their debut album Big Top Halloween in 1988 and followed it up with a string of albums in the 90s. The Afghan Whigs earned their biggest success with their fifth record 1965 which was certified gold in the US and featured the songs “Honky’s Ladder” and “My Curse.” After a brief split in 2001, they reunited in 2012 to work on their latest album, Do to the Beast, released in April 2014. The Afghan Whigs continue to tour and recored, solidifying their indie legacy that has lasted over 30 years.
